Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) Review Schedule

The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system is constantly updated to keep pace with knowledge. Selected updates to the system are announced monthly on the Dewey web site at http://www.oclc.org/dewey/updates/new/. Each quarter, updated full and abridged edition databases are released in WebDewey and Abridged WebDewey, respectively.

The editors review every part of the DDC over a seven-year cycle. As part of the seven-year editorial cycle, we have developed a list of priorities for short- and long-term development during the period 2004-2008. We expect to give high priority to sci/tech areas, social issues, and suggestions from Dewey translators and users. The areas we have targeted for special attention follow, accompanied by the probable review date. Unless noted otherwise, the changes refer to the full edition and will be reflected as appropriate in the abridged edition. Links to discussion papers, monthly postings, etc., are also included. If you would like to serve on a review panel for a particular update, or have additional updates to suggest, please contact us at dewey@loc.gov.
