Physical Processing Definitions

Physical processing options are offered a la carte so you can select what best meets your needs.

  • Labels: OCLC will provide spine labels or label sets for all WorldCat MARC records cataloged for your project. You can elect to have the labels returned to you so that you can attach them locally, or if you prefer, OCLC will attach spine labels with clear label covers to your items. Spine labels will be attached ¼” from the bottom of the spine. For items with narrow spines, spine labels will be attached to the lower left corner of the front cover, ¼” from the bottom and ¼” from the gutter. Card/Pocket labels will be placed inside the front cover of items.
  • Barcodes: OCLC will attach library-supplied barcodes to the outside back cover of items, centered at the top.
  • Security Strips: OCLC will place library-supplied security strips randomly between pages.
  • Property Stamps: OCLC will property stamp the top edge of items, using a library-supplied property stamp. If the item is too narrow, the property stamp will be placed on the title page, centered at the bottom.
  • Printouts: OCLC will provide you with a printout of all WorldCat MARC records cataloged for your project to help you match the physical item with the MARC record.
