ArchiveGrid

ArchiveGrid is an important destination for searching for historical documents, personal papers and family histories held in archives throughout the world. ArchiveGrid is an online service that provides access to detailed archival collection descriptions. It includes nearly a million descriptions of archival collections held by thousands of libraries, museums, historical societies and archives worldwide.

OCLC Research is developing a new, freely available discovery system for ArchiveGrid® to replace the current subscription service by June 2012. Learn more ››

Access to primary source information

ArchiveGrid helps researchers do their work faster and in a more cost-effective manner. Researchers can learn about the contents of archived historical collections, contact archives to arrange a visit to examine materials or order copies--all from one simple, intuitive search. With ArchiveGrid's online archival collection descriptions, they can discover primary source information and their locations faster than ever before. And now, researchers can search ArchiveGrid and other OCLC electronic resources simultaneously through WorldCat.org and WorldCat Local.

Opening the door to history

Students, faculty, librarians, genealogists, scholars, researchers and authors can all make use of ArchiveGrid. Its powerful search engine and user-friendly interface brings results that include the title of the collection, holding institution, brief description and a link to an extended description. Add to that a database of repository information that makes it easy for users to contact individual archives about materials of interest.

ArchiveGrid is an exciting new development. Its search engine, user-friendly interface and nearly a million collection descriptions contributed by thousands of archives, museums and libraries worldwide ensure that users will benefit immensely from this rich resource.”
