Language Sets : Overview : Success stories
Success storiesAltoona Public Library, Altoona, IowaA suburb of Des Moines, Iowa, with a population of 14,000, Altoona is a rapidly growing town with immigrants from Mexico, China and Sudan moving into the area. The library turned to OCLC Language Sets to help welcome these groups into the community and become a part of the library. St. Cloud Public Library, St. Cloud, MinnesotaThe number of languages represented in the St. Cloud library collection continues to grow to reflect changes in the community. About 19.4 percent of the U.S. population does not speak English as a first language, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. For those people, finding books and other resources in their first language can be difficult, but libraries are trying to change that. |
