ILLiad : Support, training and documentation : Migrating to version 8.0
End of support for ILLiad versions older than 8.1OCLC and Atlas Systems continue to provide ongoing enhancements to the OCLC ILLiad Resource Sharing Management software to insure that ILLiad meets the changing needs of libraries. As part of the move to newer versions of ILLiad software, OCLC will discontinue support for ILLiad versions 8.0 and older on July 15, 2012. ILLiad version 8.2 is the latest version of the interlibrary loan management suite. The ILLiad 8.2 client is faster, more efficient and easier to use than previous versions because it takes advantage of the latest development platforms and tools. Migration timelineOCLC will end customer support for ILLiad versions 8.0 and older on July 15, 2012. Older versions of WorldCat Resource Sharing web service to be discontinuedAs part of the move to newer versions of ILLiad software, WorldCat Resource Sharing web service versions 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4, used to update requests and receive new lending requests, will be discontinued on July 15, 2012. Streamline future updates with the ILLiad hosted serviceThe hosted version of ILLiad eliminates the need to manage server software version changes locally, resulting in significant time savings for your staff. This service includes all of the hardware and software components, back-ups and system upgrades. Under the hosted service, your ILLiad server is monitored for availability, updated on a regular basis and archived for recovery purposes. If you migrate your ILLiad server to OCLC hosting, your server will be upgraded to the latest version of ILLiad as part of that process. Learn more about the hosted service Learn more about migrating to the hosted service Upgrading to version 8.2To update your ILLiad server, read the ILLiad 8.2 release notes available in the Atlas Systems documentation site (also known as the 'prometheus' server). The release notes include a step-by-step guide to upgrading to 8.2. If you are an OCLC-hosted site, your upgrade should take approximately 1–2 hours to complete. Please schedule your upgrade in the Online Scheduler. After the server-side portion of your upgrade is complete, the ILLiad client should attempt to automatically update itself. You will want to review the upgrade instructions for the other ILLiad client components you might use. Moving from ILLiad version 7.4If you are using ILLiad 7.4, you will need the ILLiad 8.2 client executable files to install ILLiad version 8.2. Moving from versions older than 7.4If you are using an ILLiad version older than 7.2.0 7.4, please contact OCLC Customer Support prior to attempting an upgrade. Your upgrade may require changes to your operating system and/or your server software. Your upgrade may require changes to your operating system and/or your server software. What are users saying about the hosted service? We are a medium-size library and a hosted site and I can't imagine any cons. We don't have a systems librarian so we would have no one to maintain our own server and no one who would understand the technical lingo, or be able to deal with the technical problems that, of course, would arise. We do, of course, have an IT department who we can consult but there's no way they could be devoted to maintaining ILLiad. For this reason, I really appreciate the support and convenience of being hosted, particularly around upgrade times, when everything is done from OCLC's end."
