Using Microsoft Access with ILLiad at the University of Chicago to Automatically Generate and Distribute Reports See how the University of Chicago Library is using Microsoft Access to generate reports from ILLiad and is scheduling these reports to run automatically, with the results emailed to appropriate staff. These reports help staff analyze staff productivity, determine when to lift user blocks, and indicate which users should receive fines for late returns of ILLs. They also automatically convert requests for recent imprints into purchase requests on behalf of users. This session will provide a broad overview of the kinds of things that can be done with Microsoft Access, but it is not intended as a complete Microsoft Access training session. |

ILLiad and Resource Sharing in the University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions Consortium of Libraries. The mission of the USMAI (University System of Maryland and Affiliated Institutions) consortium is to support effective access to library resources by providing and promoting a range of resource sharing services which support the objectives and maximize resources of the individual libraries of the member institutions. A panel of USMAI librarians and staff will present their vision for resource sharing, how the combination of ILLiad, Odyssey and Aleph are being used to request materials between their campuses, the various approaches to authentication used across the consortium, and how support is being done for a consortium in which 7 members have separate ILLiad installations and the remainder are supported from a newer central site. |

| Bob Shaw, ILL Services Librarian, Wisconsin Library Services (WiLS); Allen Wenzel, ILL Automation Supervisor, Wisconsin Library Services (WiLS)
Using ILLiad in a Clearinghouse Operation Mr. Shaw and Mr. Wenzel will demonstrate a method they have developed to use ILLiad in a clearinghouse operation. Many libraries, particularly public library systems as well as various kinds of member organizations like WiLS, take on a clearinghouse role for their member libraries in interlibrary loan --often handling billing, shipping, reciprocal arrangements, etc. The process WiLS developed involves receiving lending requests that come to them on OCLC or the ILLiad web form, and then creating a corresponding borrowing request (with no re-keying) within ILLiad. The WiLS method updates the statuses of both the lending and borrowing requests based upon the responses of the borrowing and lending institutions. This workflow is automated by a combination of WinBatch macros and ILLiad routing rules. The WiLS Interlibrary Loan Service receives over 110,000 requests annually from libraries worldwide and refers some 5,000 requests for its member libraries that cannot be filled from the local collections. |

| Jan Waterhouse, University of Kansas
Preregistering Patrons by Importing User Data into ILLiad. Ms. Waterhouse will describe the procedure that the University of Kansas used to import patron data obtained from human resources and registration databases into ILLiad (MS SQL Server) in order to preregister students, faculty and staff prior to Go-live with borrowing. Combined with customized Web pages and LDAP authentication using the already-familiar campus network id and password, this allows patrons nearly transparent access to the ILLiad system. In addition to the initial patron load, continuing patron load issues, such as identifying a patron already in the system and updating his or her information as opposed to creating a new patron record, will be discussed. |
||
| 12:00 | 1:30 | Lunch Tanner Wray RUSA/STARS Update Mr. Wray will give a short talk on RUSA (Reference User Services Association) STARS (Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Section) of the American Library Association. He will explain what STARS is, why it was formed, an overview and update of current activities, and how people can get involved. |

| Kristine Shrauger (University of Central Florida)
Implementation of ILLiad with Multiple Pickup Sites The University of Central Florida has a user group of over 43,000 students, 1,500 faculty members and 3,248 administrators and support staff. The Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Department (ILL/DDS) at the University of Central Florida has the unique challenge of serving this population that provides classes and instruction on at least 14 different campuses throughout central Florida. In addition, the ILL/DDS department has also created a new program, Disability Services, which also provides a delivery service to UCF clients who require physical assistance or are visually impaired. On December 28, 2004, ILLiad was implemented at UCF with one ILL/DDS centralized department with multiple pick-up locations. Ms. Shrauger will discuss how her institution has used ILLiad to manage and expand their ILL/DDS services. |

Putting Some Science into Library Science: Building a Multi-College Resource Sharing System Using Performance Standards, ILLiad, and Graphical Transaction Analysis Tools Fifteen SUNY and CUNY academic libraries in New York State are conducting a three-year pilot project to develop the technology, policies, performance standards, and a unified community of trust required for effective cross-college sharing of information resources. Accomplishments, unexpected consequences, and painful learning experiences from this pilot project will be reviewed. The speakers will also demonstrate experimental, graphical-based transaction analysis tools, built around ILLiad, providing continuous real-time monitoring and analysis of the project. |
