Solutions for borrowers

OCLC ILLiad borrowing service provides your interlibrary loan staff with a powerful single interface that allows them to process user requests so efficiently as to eliminate any delays in the daily processing of a request. ILLiad eliminates backlogs of interlibrary loan requests.

With ILLiad you will be able to search WorldCat to find the material your user has requested. ILLiad will perform a search and complete the ILL workform with the information supplied by your user. Important information supplied by these ILL services is then imported back into the ILLiad request form, so that you will have access to all the information you need to process and track the request.

  1. For article-based requests, you first need to clear the users requests using the Copyright management system in ILLiad. ILLiad provides copyright tracking that allows interlibrary loan staff to track and monitor all user-based requests for journal articles. When your library has exceeded its fair use limit, ILLiad provides an easy-to-use copyright payment system that generates a summary of royalties being paid.
  2. ILLiad performs an automatic search on WorldCat.
  3. Based on the results from the search, ILL staff selects the appropriate bibliographic record and select lenders. ILLiad then completes the online form with information supplied by the user and sends the request on to the first lender.
  4. The information from OCLC ILL is then imported back to the ILLiad request and managed.
  5. Once the item is sent to your library, your interlibrary loan staff process the material:
    • Note the due date and any specific lending restrictions.
    • Transfer information to a book label or bookstrap, along with the user information.
    • Print the label and include it with the material.
