Jerry W. Stephens

Jerry was appointed Librarian and Director of the Mervyn H. Sterne Library at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 1985. Prior to his appointment he held several different positions within the Library. During his tenure at UAB he has been the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Fiscal Officer for University College while holding his position as Librarian and Director.

Jerry has been actively involved with OCLC since 1996. He has served on the Advisory Committee for College and University Libraries (1996–1998), Users Council and Members Council (1997–2003), the OCLC Board of Trustees (2002–2008) and Global Council (2011–present). He has served in various leadership roles, including President-elect of Users Council, President of Members Council, Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Board and Chairman of the Joint Committee on Membership. In addition he served as a member of the SOLINET Board of Directors, serving as Treasurer and Chairman of the Board. He was a member of the steering committees that founded the Network of Alabama Libraries and the Alabama Virtual Library.

Jerry received his BS in Accounting (1974) and his MBA (1996) from UAB, and his MLS (1997) and his PhD in Administration in Higher Education (1982) from the University of Alabama.
