WorldCat Resource Sharing at the Bavarian State Library
Since March 2009, the Bavarian State Library (BSB) has participated in OCLC’s WorldCat Resource Sharing network. The goal has been simple; to bring the BSB’s unique collection of holdings to library customers worldwide - people who otherwise may not have the opportunity to access them.
Six months on and participation in the service has resulted in requests being received by the BSB rising to around 2,000 per month. By simplifying and extending the reach of their inter-library loan capabilities with WorldCat Resource Sharing, the BSB has dramatically increased their collections visibility and accessibility.
So that they may share their experiences of WorldCat Resource Sharing in more detail, the BSB have organised an online lecture delivered via ‘Second Life’. The lecture will be conducted in English and will take place on October 27, 5.00pm GMT (6.00pm CET). Anyone interested in joining the lecture can do so by registering at http://de.secondlife.com and download of the necessary Second-Life-Software Client. There you also find more information about Second-Life and software conditions.
