OCLC releases CONTENTdm 5 with Unicode

OCLC releases CONTENTdm 5, a new version of its widely used CONTENTdm Digital Collection Management Software. CONTENTdm 5 fully supports Unicode – an industry standard that allows computers to represent and manipulate text in most of the world's non-Western languages, including Greek, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, among others.

In response to input provided by more than 1,000 CONTENTdm users, OCLC developed many new features – and improved many existing ones – as part of CONTENTdm 5. The new release includes fundamental changes for both end users and libraries that take the software to the next level.

CONTENTdm 5 enhancements include powerful search improvements, such as faceted browsing and relevancy ranking similar to what end users experience when searching WorldCat.org, Google and Yahoo! The new CONTENTdm also provides a totally redesigned Project Client offering more streamlined collection-building workflows; a new reports module; nine integrated thesauri; and increased capacity that supports more collections, items and metadata fields as well as larger volumes for batch processing.
