Setting the standards

Without consistent, scalable and well-accepted standards, the risk of becoming obsolete looms large for any digital collection. That's why OCLC not only lives by industry standards, we help shape them.

We strive to improve standards to ensure interoperability among systems now and in the future. We work with other organizations and institutions to develop standards that remain compliant with ever-evolving best practices and methodology, so your digital collections are, too.

OCLC staff serve on working groups such as Preservation Metadata: Implementation Standards (PREMIS) to develop a comprehensive framework for preservation metadata standards.
