Overview of WorldCat library access programThe library access program allows libraries to enable links to OCLC FirstSearch's WorldCat database and other OCLC services from other online reference services. OCLC has partnered with a variety of online reference services to enable these links. Libraries must turn these links on from the administrative area of the partner service and enter their FirstSearch authorization. Once the link is enabled, library users will see bibliographic records, holdings information, OCLC full text and the fulfillment options that the library has enabled in OCLC FirstSearch. From the users perspective, the service appears as a WorldCat button or link on records within the partner user interface. While searching in the partner service, users will see the WorldCat link on records for items such as articles or books. Users can click on the link and view bibliographic information about the item and determine if their library or a library in their area owns the item (based on the postal code for the library). If the library has enabled certain fulfillment options in FirstSearch such as ILL, the user will have the option to get the item as well. |
