OCLC Canada Symposium at CLA 2014

OCLC Canada hosted this symposium on May 28, 2014, during the Canadian Library Association's Conference and Tradeshow at the Victoria Conference Centre (Victoria, British Columbia).

OCLC Americas Regional Council Update
Debbie Schachter
, Director, Learning Resources, Douglas College and OCLC Global Council delegate, will kick off the symposium and give a brief update on the latest governance news and member-led initiatives.

Constance Malpas, Program Officer, OCLC Research, will give the keynote on Understanding the Collective Collection: Towards a System-wide Perspective on Library Print Collections. This report brings together the important work that OCLC Research has done for the community in providing a quantitative, analytic, system-wide view of library collections.

Panel Presentations
In addition to our keynote speaker, this event will also feature three presentations from innovative, award-winning institutions. OCLC Canada co-sponsors awards with Congres des milieux documentaries (CMD), OLITA and CLA. These awards recognize cutting-edge initiatives in the library community.

OCLC / CMD Innovation Award Recipient: Bibliothèques de Montréal for its Montréal joue Project
Ivan Filion
, Head of Division, Library Programmes and Services to the Boroughs, City of Montréal, will give a presentation on the Montréal joue project. Montréal joue (Montréal at play) is a gaming festival presented by the Bibliothèques de Montréal that takes place during spring break and the preceding week.  

OLITA Award for Technological Innovation Recipient: Government & Legislative Libraries Online Publication Portal (GALLOP/PPGPE)
Peter Ellinger
, Manager, Portfolio Management Office, Information and Technology Services Division, Ontario Legislative Library, received the 2014 OLITA Award for Technological Innovation for his contributions to the Government & Legislative Libraries Online Publications Portal (GALLOP/PPGPE).  

2014 CLA/OCLC Award for Innovative Technology Recipient:
The Alberta Library (TAL), TAL Online’s Where Are You From (WAYF) Application, Interface & Administrative Panel

Jason Openo
, Director of Planning  & Program Development, The Alberta Library, and Kristin Delwo, Managing Partner, Hybrid Forge, will share how WAYF was created in partnership with software developer Hybrid Forge to facilitate resource sharing to TAL's 49 member libraries, their multiple integrated library systems and interlibrary loan management software.

OCLC Update
OCLC Canada Executive Director Daniel Boivin provided an update on the OCLC cooperative’s latest initiatives in the technology environment.
