Debbie L. Johnson-Houston
Library Director, McNeese State University
Johnson-Houston has been in the library profession for more than 30 years and has served as an educator, administrator, author, and information consultant. She joined the Frazar Memorial Library faculty as a reference librarian and assistant professor of library science at McNeese State University in 2006 and was appointed library director in April 2010. She is a member of and officer on several state and national organizations such as the American Library Association (ALA), the Association of Colleges and Research (ACRL), the Louisiana Library Association (LLA) and the Louisiana Academic Library Information Network Consortium (LALINC). Debbie’s most recent book, Images of America: Lake Charles was released in February 2012.
Prior to coming to McNeese, Johnson-Houston was the Library Information Representative/ Chief Executive Officer of the United States Division of Firefly Books, Ltd., in Pittsburgh, Penn. She also was assistant director of outreach services at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, library branch manager of Broward County Library in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and head of the interlibrary loan department at Allen Parish Libraries in Oberlin, Louisiana.
Johnson-Houston received her Bachelor of Arts degree in speech communications from McNeese and her Master of Arts in library and information science from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida.
