Ian Fairclough
Cataloging and Metadata Services Librarian, George Mason University
Ian Fairclough started as a general assistant with the City of Liverpool Public Libraries in 1973, moved to Canada in 1975, and from 1977 to 1989 lived in New York City, getting his MLS at Queens College. He also has degrees in music from the University of Liverpool, the University of Toronto and Columbia University. He has lived in numerous places across the United States and has worked in libraries of various sizes and types (large, small and in-between; public, academic, and special).
For several years he worked closely with OCLC's Quality Control Section and other agencies on projects to improve bibliographic data, and together with Brenda Block (OCLC QCS Manager) has presented several conference sessions and workshops. He has served as founding co-listowner of DEWEYERROR, PERSNAME-L and other Listserv® lists dedicated to specific aspects of database improvement, and assisted with establishing the Typo of the Day for Librarians blog. He helps organize bicycle tours, has written and called contra dances, and visits Ohio frequently to spend time with his wife Diana who lives in Marion and loves to visit England.
