VU University in Amsterdam selects OCLC WorldShare Management Services

DUBLIN, Ohio, USA, June 25, 2015Vrije Universiteit (VU University) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, has selected WorldShare Management Services to manage its library resources.

WorldShare Management Services (WMS) provide cloud-based library management and discovery applications in an integrated suite. WMS offers librarians a cost-effective way to manage workflows efficiently, and improve access to library collections and services for their students, faculty and staff.

VU University is part of the UKB consortium of Dutch university libraries that is moving its library services to WorldShare, the technology platform that makes it possible to integrate their metadata management and resource sharing into a global network to gain efficiencies in workflow and IT infrastructure.

"Moving to WMS is an important step to improve discovery and delivery for our students and staff," said Josje Calff, Director of VU University Library. "At the same time, we can manage workflows in a much more integrated and cost-effective manner, connecting to national and international academic information services."

"OCLC is very pleased that the library of VU University, one of the leading universities in the Netherlands, has selected WorldShare Management Services," said Eric van Lubeek, Vice President, Managing Director, OCLC EMEA and APAC. "The VU Library will gain improved workflow efficiencies managing electronic, digital and print resources in WMS. The discovery experience will open up a new world for the VU user community with global collections integrated with the VU Library’s rich collections."

Today, more than 330 libraries worldwide are using WorldShare Management Services to share bibliographic records, publisher and knowledge base data, vendor records, serials patterns and more. WMS also provides libraries with the unique opportunity to share innovation, applications, infrastructure, vision and success in serving their users.

About VU University

Ever since it was founded in 1880, VU University Amsterdam has been known for its distinctive approach to knowledge. VU is an open organization, strongly linked to people and society. What matters is not just the acquisition of a greater depth of knowledge, but also a wider one. We ask and expect our students, researchers, PhD candidates and employees to look further – to look further than their own interests and their own field, and further than what is familiar and further than the here and now. VU stands for universal university values such as academic freedom and independence, which is reflected in the name (‘VU’ is the Dutch abbreviation for ‘free university’): free from the church, state and any commercial interest. The basic philosophy of VU is expressed in three core values: responsible, open, personally engaged. More about VU is at www.vu.nl/en/.
