Ellen Tise

Ellen Tise is Senior Director, Library and Information Services at Stellenbosch University South Africa since January 2006. She previously held positions at the University of the Western Cape from 2001–2005, and at the University of the Witwatersrand from 1996–2000, in South Africa. Ellen was appointed to the UNESCO International Advisory Committee of the Memory of the World for the period 2011–2014. In October 2012, she was appointed Chairman of the Board of the National Library of South Africa from 2012–2015.

Ellen is a Past President of the International Federation of Library Associations & Institutions (IFLA) 2009–2011. She was the first President of the Library and Information Association of South Africa from 1998–2002 and served on many other major library and information bodies, including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Access to Learning Award Advisory Committee in 2007, OCLC Members Council from 2005–2008, member of Qatar National Library Board of Trustees since 2013, director of Sabinet Online Board of Directors since 2003, and member of the International Advisory Board of Beacon of Freedom of Expression of Expression from 2012–2014.

Ellen was awarded an honorary fellowship of IFLA in August 2012. She has received many other awards for distinguished leadership and outstanding contributions to librarianship.

Ellen was elected to the OCLC Board of Trustees by Global Council in April 2014.
