The Future of WorldCat Local
WorldCat® Discovery Services will eventually replace the WorldCat® Local service. WorldCat Discovery Services provides access to more than 2,712,721,003 electronic, digital and physical resources in libraries around the world, through a single search of WorldCat and a central index that represents 2,420 e-content collections. WorldCat Discovery provides libraries with the ability to add several individual fee-based options to their service. WorldCat Local subscribers have access to all these options as part of their current subscription, and are invited to participate in a WorldCat Local community beta phase happening now, and then to start their transition to WorldCat Discovery.
There is no end of access date currently set for the WorldCat Local service.
“The great advantage of WorldCat Local is that it makes a huge amount of resources readily available in one search—in one place—and offers quality information to the user.”
