Director of Technical Services, University of Chicago
Christopher Cronin is Director of Technical Services at the University of Chicago Library. He was previously the Library’s Director of Metadata & Cataloging Services, and has also held positions at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Chris is active in the American Library Association, having held appointments on the ALA Committee on Organization, as well as numerous committees within the Association of Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS). He has recently served terms on the ALCTS Transforming Collections Task Force, Subject Analysis Committee. He also currently serves on the Editorial Board of Library Resources & Technical Services. In 2011, Chris was elected as a BIBCO representative on the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) Policy Committee, and chaired the task force that wrote the new RDA BIBCO Standard Record. Within OCLC, he serves on the Research Library Partners (RLP) Metadata Management Interest Group, and was part of the RLP’s Social Metadata Working Group.
Chris holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) from the University of British Columbia, and a Master of Information Studies from the University of Toronto. Chris will be part of the 2013 class of Harvard University’s Leadership Institute for Academic Librarians. He has presented and published widely on cataloging and metadata services, and has consulted in these areas both nationally and internationally.
