Gateway to the UK’s public libraries
Bookmark Your Library is a website which provides a single point of online access to all of the services and resources offered by UK public libraries. Conceived, and instigated by OCLC as part of its ongoing advocacy work, the website was developed collaboratively with several leading UK library organisations.
Bookmark Your Library is about highlighting the vital role of public libraries and boosting their visibility, relevancy and usage amongst existing and new users. Bookmark Your Library helps people locate materials for loan, find out about local library events, become a member, and provides them with the information they need to develop skills and pursue interests through their library service. And, they can do all of this for free.
At the heart of Bookmark Your Library is FABLibraries (Find A Book in Libraries), the UK’s only national public library catalogue which is based on the holdings of UnityUK subscribers. Bookmark Your Library also provides access to other critical public library services from OCLC, including the Enquire virtual reference service. This gives members of the public the means to chat online with a librarian to resolve questions or support learning, at any time of the day or night.
OCLC has worked with a number of key stakeholders in the formation of Bookmark Your Library. Groups including The Society of Chief Librarians (SCL), Arts Council England, The Reading Agency, The Combined Regions, The Collections Trust and the RNIB, have all worked closely with OCLC to make Bookmark Your Library as relevant and inclusive as possible.
Explore www.bookmarkyourlibrary.org.uk yourself and see what it can do for your library and your users. There are a number of communications and social media channels set up, so you can feedback or pledge your support for the service.
