WorldShare Interlibrary Loan now available in the United States
OCLC WorldShare Interlibrary Loan is a new service that will replace WorldCat Resource Sharing, as part of libraries’ OCLC Resource Sharing subscriptions. The service centralizes workflows now managed in multiple systems, and will provide new functionality to speed fulfillment of interlibrary loan requests and save time for library staff and library users. WorldShare Interlibrary Loan is now available to libraries in the United States, and the service will be available worldwide in June 2013.
Thousands of libraries in more than 40 countries form OCLC's global resource sharing network, providing users worldwide with access to resources in member library collections. At its core is the WorldCat database, the most comprehensive database of bibliographic and library ownership information.
With millions of records that represent library-owned resources of all format types, WorldCat represents a broad range of subjects and languages. Also, the addition of new functionality and services, such as the WorldCat knowledge base and WorldShare License Manager, brings new features that speed digital delivery and enhance article sharing among libraries. These new features streamline staff article-processing procedures and enhance customer service, making it possible to fill requests for electronic materials within hours.
WorldCat Resource Sharing
Borrow and lend materials with libraries down the road or around the world
WorldCat Resource Sharing provides time-saving, efficient interlibrary lending tools that simplify library workflows and connect information seekers to materials in 10,000 libraries in 40 countries. The system has been continually updated and automated since its debut in 1979, reducing staff time and effort and providing members with a high fill rate. Soon, the new WorldShare Interlibrary Loan service will go beyond traditional interlibrary loan to provide a truly integrated delivery solution for libraries. The service will integrate discovery and delivery of electronic, digital and print materials within a single interface. It will also support evolving workflow changes in libraries, such as the option to purchase needed items rather than borrow them.
ILLiad
A single interface for more efficient interlibrary loan
The OCLC ILLiad Resource Sharing Management software (ILLiad) automates routine interlibrary loan functions. You save time by managing all of your library's borrowing, lending and document delivery through a single, Windows-based interface.
Other resource sharing options
OCLC resource sharing options include two electronic document delivery options. Odyssey offers document delivery in an open protocol. The Article Exchange document-sharing site, introduced in 2012, provides a single, secure location where lending libraries can place requested documents and library users can retrieve articles or book chapters obtained for them via interlibrary loan.
