Robert Moropa’s professional career spans over more than three decades. He started off as regional librarian with the former Transvaal Provincial Administration before he was offered a position of Assistant Librarian at the University of Fort Hare in 1980. In 1981 he was offered a position of Assistant Librarian at the then University of Transkei. In 1990 he was appointed to the position of University Librarian at this university. He has subsequently held senior positions at the following institutions: North West Technikon (currently TUT- Ga-Rankua Campus), Unisa and University of Pretoria Library Services.
He was one of the key role-players in the unification processes of the library profession that led to the launch of LIASA in 1997. He served as President of LIASA from 2002-2004. He has recently stepped down from the position of Vice-Chairperson of SNALiC, and that of the Chair of the OCLC EMEA Regional Council. He is the member of the OCLC EMEARC and OCLC Global Council.

He is currently holding the position of Director of the Department of Library Services at the University of Pretoria.
