John DeSantis

John DeSantis has been Cataloging and Metadata Services Librarian at Dartmouth College since 1998. He previously held positions in library technical services at Amherst College in Massachusetts and the University of Toronto. 

John has been a councilor-at-large on the Council of the American Library Association since 2004, and has served on a number of ALA Council committees and ALA divisional committees.  He is currently a voting member of the ALCTS Committee on Cataloging: Description and Access.  John is also a member of IFLA's Standing Committee on Classification and Indexing.  A former President of New England Technical Services Librarians, he was the recipient of their award for Excellence in Library Technical Services in 2012.

John holds a Bachelor's degree in Russian, a Master's degree in Slavic Languages, and a Master's degree in Library Science all from the University of Toronto, where he also pursued doctoral studies in Slavic Languages.  He is conversant in several Slavic and Romance languages and is a certified translator.
