Director, Winterthur Museum and Country Estate
David P. Roselle serves as Director of Winterthur Museum & Country Estate in Wilmington, Delaware. He previously served as president of the University of Delaware from 1990-2007, and was named President Emeritus and Professor Emeritus of Mathematics. He has joined the faculties at the University of Maryland (1965), Louisiana State University (1968) and Virginia Tech (1974). At Virginia Tech, he was appointed Dean of the Graduate School in 1979, Dean of Research and Graduate Studies in 1981 and Provost in 1983-a position he held until assuming the presidency at the University of Kentucky in 1987.
David is past president of the Southeastern University Research Association and the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications. He is also on the board of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Delaware, Tower Hill School, Soka University USA, VTLS and Wilmington Trust. He has served on additional boards, including the Delaware Chamber of Commerce and the Delaware Public Policy Institute. He joined the OCLC Board of Trustees in 2004.
In 1989, CAUSE presented David with its Recognition Award for Institutional Leadership. The University of Kentucky National Alumni Association awarded him its Distinguished Service Award in 1990, and cited "his wisdom in guiding the institution through difficult times." In 1999, Soka University in Tokyo, Japan, awarded him an honorary doctorate.
David is a 1961 graduate of West Chester University. He received a PhD in Mathematics in 1965 from Duke University. The University of Delaware dedicated the Louise and David Roselle Center for the Arts in 2007 and awarded Louise and David Roselle honorary doctoral degrees in May 2008. West Chester University awarded him its Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1976 and honorary Doctor of Law in 1994. Virginia Tech awarded him its Certificate of Teaching Excellence and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics presented him with its Certificate of Appreciation.
