On July 1, 2008 Marie DeYoung joined Saint Mary's University as University Librarian. Since then the Library has undergone extensive renovations, including the creation of group study spaces, the introduction of laptop lending and installation of new technology throughout the Library.
Previous to that she was with the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) from September, 1998 as Director of Library Services. At NSCC Marie was instrumental in designing new library facilities for a number of Campuses as well as developing a library service for a distributed province wide Campus network. Prior to that she was at the Nova Scotia Department of Justice as Information Management Administrator.
Marie has degrees from Saint Francis Xavier University, Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and Dalhousie University. In 1996 Marie was the recipient of the Award for Special Librarianship in Canada and was 1998 Association of Records Managers and Administrators Halifax Chapter Member of the Year. In 2003 Marie received the Dalhousie School of Library and Information Studies Distinguished Alumni Award and in 2005 received the Norman Horrocks Award for Library Leadership. In 2007 Marie was recognized as the Outstanding College Librarian by the Community and Technical College Libraries, a division of the Canadian Library Association and also received the 2007 Leadership Excellent Award from NSCC.
Marie has served on the executive of CLA, CASLIS, CACUL, CTCL, and also served in executive positions for ARMA–Halifax Chapter and Canadian Association of Law Libraries. She is currently serving as President of the Canadian Library Association.
