OCLC Canada Symposium at CLA 2012: The Long and Short of Library Collaboration
Daniel Boivin, Executive Director, OCLC Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean, welcomed more than 65 participants to the annual OCLC Canada Symposium at CLA. The theme of this year’s event, The Long and Short of Library Collaboration, began with a keynote presentation from Stephen Abram, Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and Markets for Cengage Learning (Gale), Head in the Clouds: Technology in Libraries.

The Long:
William Maes provided a brief update on the OCLC’s Americas Regional Council’s (ARC) initiatives. His presentation was followed by a panel discussion on the long-term impact of local, regional, national and international collaboration. This debate examined the need to reduce the overlap of initiatives, while still working toward achieving the profession's broader objectives.

Following the panel discussion, Daniel Boivin and Stephen Abram presented a cheque to CLA President, Karen Adams (University of Manitoba), a contribution to CLA's new Technology Renewal Fund. Daniel Boivin closed the event by providing a summary of the past 15 years of OCLC in Canada.
