Getting started with WorldShare Interlibrary Loan

The new WorldShare Interlibrary Loan service is now available for use by libraries in the United States. Access to the service for libraries outside the United States will begin in June 2013.

Step 1: Register your library

Please let us know you are ready to begin using WorldShare Interlibrary Loan by completing the WorldShare Interlibrary Loan registration form.  We will confirm your interest in beginning to use the new service and give you information about the next steps you need to take.

Step 2: Establish new user accounts

Before you log on to WorldShare Interlibrary Loan for the first time, you must set up a new OCLC user account for interlibrary loan. This new account will replace the 9-digit authorization number and password you currently use to access WorldCat Resource Sharing.

The new OCLC account is a single account that will give you access to several services in the new platform.  If you already use WMS, WorldShare Collection Manager or WorldShare License Manager, you may have already created an OCLC Services account.  You will now need to add the new WorldShare ILL permissions to that existing account instead of creating a completely new, separate account. If you need assistance please contact OCLC support and we can help you set up your new account

The OCLC Services account also offers self-management of your staff members’ passwords.  OCLC will not have access to your password for security reasons.  If you forget your password, you may click Reset Password at the bottom of the logon page.

Self-paced training

We recommend you first consult the self-paced training resources provided on our Training website

These resources provide an introduction to use of the new service that you can review at your own pace and on your own schedule. For many people, the self-paced resources will provide enough information to  successfully begin using the new service.

Live virtual training classes

Virtual training classes will be provided using OCLC’s conferencing software, WebEx.  In these sessions, you will walk through workflows for both borrowing and lending with an experienced OCLC trainer.
