Through WorldCat Local, libraries can provide access to a broad range of content that OCLC assembles from a variety of sources that include:
- Full databases indexed in the WorldCat Local central index.
Our agreements with database publishers give your users fast, easy discovery through WorldCat Local's single search. Users may search these databases separately or in combination. Your library's access to these databases is determined by the subscriptions you maintain to this content.
- Full databases accessible via remote access from a database publisher site.
Our agreements with database publishers enable searching of these databases on the content provider's site with results included in single, relevance-ranked set of results along with results from the central index. Your library's access to these databases is determined by the subscriptions you maintain to this content.
- Vendor record sets that have been requested by WorldCat Local libraries.
OCLC contacts publishers on behalf of WorldCat Local libraries to obtain agreements for the addition to WorldCat of vendor records already licensed by these libraries. Vendor records are often loaded directly into WorldCat to give users an OPAC-like experience, similar to what they already see at their library. Other sets can be searched as discrete databases, available only to users of subscribing libraries.
- Journal sources included in the WorldCat knowledge base.
More than 99,867 journal titles are accessible through WorldCat Local due to decades of WorldCat contributions by member libraries; the indexing in WorldCat.org of article-level records from sources that include ArticleFirst, British Library Inside Serials, ERIC, MEDLINE, JSTOR, OAIster PapersFirst, ProceedingsFirst and Elsevier; and the recent addition of 5.6 million records into a new knowledge base within WorldCat. OCLC has matched lists of journal ISSNs indexed in familiar databases against the ISSNs available through WorldCat.org and WorldCat Local. Those databases with 75 percent or more coverage in WorldCat are included on this Databases and Collections list.
