Letters of Invitation, Passports and Visas

Visa requirements depend on nationality, but all foreign visitors are required to hold a valid passport. South Africa requires a valid yellow fever certificate from all foreign visitors and citizens travelling from an infected area or having been in transit through infected areas.

  • For more information on how to apply for a VISA and the countries exempt from this requirement, please visit the Home Affairs website.
  • For visa requirements, please contact your nearest South African diplomatic mission.

Participants requiring a letter of invitation in order to attend the Meeting are requested to ensure that they tick this box on the registration form. A letter will be sent to you and this must be submitted to the relevant Embassy together with a copy of your registration confirmation. However, if this document is not suitable, please email Sandra Smith with the additional details to be added.

Please note that this procedure aims to assist participants who need to obtain a visa or permission to attend the Meeting. It is not an official invitation covering fees and other expenses, nor does it imply any financial support from the EMEA Regional Council.

Please make arrangements for your visa as soon as possible. The procedure may take longer than expected for various reasons.

When filling out the forms, please make sure that you do not claim that you are coming to work in South Africa, even though visiting an EMEA Regional Council Meeting may be considered work. Entering the country as a Tourist is the most suitable approach.
