WorldCat.org is a free-to-the-public search engine that provides access to the materials of thousands of member libraries from all over the world. It's an intuitive and "Web-friendly" way for users to find and use library materials, and helps people locate specific items in unique, local library collections.
When you participate in the OCLC cooperative by contributing metadata and subscribe to the WorldCat database on FirstSearch, your library's records will appear in WorldCat.org search results at no additional cost. To get started:
- Contribute local holdings information and other metadata via one or more of the following OCLC services: [include links]Connexion, CatExpress, Contract Cataloging, Batchload, WorldCat Cataloging Partners, eSerials Holdings Service, GovDoc, Language Sets, CONTENTdm or the WorldCat Digital Collection Gateway. (Note: many of these services require an annual subscription or may have other costs associated with them.)
- Subscribe to the WorldCat database on FirstSearch.
After that, metadata you contribute is searchable on WorldCat.org and is also available through various syndication partnerships on the wider Web, including such services as Google, Yahoo! and Google Books.
