Primary Research Group publishes Library Use of eBooks

This 103-page study is based on data from 68 public, academic, corporate, legal and government libraries, with data broken out by type of library, size of library and other criteria. Among the findings:

  • Sample libraries spent a mean of $118,676 on e-books in 2012.
  • About one-third of the libraries in the sample have a contract with Ebrary, including 19.23 percent of libraries with a total budget of less than $500,000.
  • Libraries in the sample expect to renew almost 75 percent of their current e-book contracts upon completion.
  • On average, libraries in the sample have experienced a mean increase of 17.93 percent in the price of e-books in the last year.

RLUK and OCLC pilot new solution for electronic resource metadata management

OCLC is working with several members of RLUK (Research Libraries UK) to pilot WorldShare Metadata Collection Manager, a new service that brings improvements to the way libraries manage electronic resources and provide access to these valuable collections. The pilot will last six months and will help hone the new service, ensuring it accommodates any regional nuances before general release.
