| IOS Press is a rapidly expanding Scientific, Technical, Medical and Professional publishing house focusing on a broad range of subject areas. IOS Press was established in 1987 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In 1990 IOS Press incorporated an office in Burke, Virginia, USA. Since 1994 IOS Press participates in a co- publishing relationship with Ohmsha Ltd. in Tokyo. Through this company IOS Press book publications are available in Japan. In 1996 IOS Press and Ohmsha re-established Akademische Verlagsgesellschaft Aka GmbH in Berlin, Germany. AKA publishes books and journals in German. The first book appeared in 1997, the first journal in 1998. Early 1998 a joint venture between Science Press, Beijing, Ohmsha and IOS Press was established in Beijing, reflecting the ever-increasing importance of scientific research being conducted in China. The new company will publish for the Chinese market as well as undertake typesetting in world languages. As of 1998 IOS Press is the publisher for the NATO Advanced Study Institutes and Partnership subseries publications in the subject disciplines of Science & Technology Policy, Computer Networking, Life Sciences and Computer & Systems Sciences. This generates more than 40 new book publications per year, bringing the total number of new books up to more than 100 per annum. In 1998 IOS Press has taken over several journals and started publication of new ones. Today IOS Press publishes 50 international journals; more information regarding the journal titles can be found in the journal section of the IOS Press catalogue. In 1998 IOS Press has become active in a number of research and marketing projects. One of the projects is ACTSLINE. IOS Press is responsible for presenting the results of ACTS in scientific journals, at conferences, societies etc. ACTS is the focus of the EU’s research effort in advanced communications in the European Commission’s Fourth Framework Programme of research and technical development. Another project IOS Press participates in is EUROPATH. The EUROPATH project is aimed at establishing a network for consultation, exchange of pathology data and images and teaching in cyto(histo)pathology. IOS Press is responsible for the marketing of a pathology database containing images and case reports. | |
