Course description
This workshop provides an overview of the coding of Machine Readable Catalog records. The emphasis is on the books format, but the most important tags for other media, such as visual materials and computer files, will be discussed.
Why take this course?
Are you new to cataloging? Are you considering implementing MARC format for your local database? Or would you simply like to gain more insight into the structure of your current database?
Online workshops use WebEx, an easy-to-use virtual meeting technology. Attendees will receive as part of their confirmation the necessary logon information, links to course materials and telephone number (used for the audio portion of training). This confirmation will be sent out prior to the workshop
What you will learn
You will learn how to employ bibliographic standards and the OCLC-MARC format for the creation of original and editing of existing bibliographic records in WorldCat®.
Topics covered include
- Field by field look at the most common MARC tags
- Transcription of bibliographic information into machine-readable form
- Overview of bibliographic standards for inputting records into OCLC
