Course description
Weblogs or "blogs" are online journals of single or shared authorship that can range in quality and subject matter. They can be ridiculous to extremely useful and are useful to both librarians and library clientele. This introductory class will focus on the best available Weblogs and explore how to find Weblogs that focus on librarians' professional interests and professional development. We will also look for best examples of how librarians are using weblogs and RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds to communicate with their clientele.
Topics covered include
- Explore how to find weblogs that focus on librarians' professional interests.
- How to use specialized search engines to find exact topics in weblogs.
- How various libraries-public, academic, and corporate- are using weblogs as a communication tool with their users.
- Show how to obtain a free weblog from one of several free commercial sources and how to set one up.
- Look at various ways RSS is also being used by libraries in their websites and blogs.
- This course will Not cover creating or editing RSS or XML code.
