OCLC Members Council

One of the most vital aspects of the OCLC cooperative is the opportunity for participation in OCLC Members Council. It is a venue for influencing the future of OCLC and, in turn, librarianship in general.

The voice of OCLC member libraries

There are 66 Members Council delegates who are elected by and represent the OCLC member libraries in their respective regions. Council meets three times a year. These meetings, which are attended by OCLC management and members of the OCLC Board of Trustees, serve as a forum for exchanging ideas and raising issues.

Because each delegate is a potential member of the OCLC Board of Trustees, Council assures that the voice of member libraries can be heard at the highest levels of OCLC and throughout the library community.

Nearly 30 years of success

Members Council, then known as the OCLC Users Council, first convened in June 1978. Since then, its recommendations have directly shaped OCLC policies and services, from operational details (such as pricing strategies and contribution requirements) to functional issues (including policy on content-enriched monograph and serials table of contents records).
