19th Century Masterfile

19th Century Masterfile (NCM) contains every relevant contemporary index to pre-1925 materials in a single searchable form.  What began in 1999 with an enhanced, electronic edition of Poole's "Index to Periodical Literature" has grown to embrace over 60 indexes to periodicals, books, newspapers, patents, US and UK government documents.

NCM is far and always the largest resource for pre-1925 studies available and additional indexes are added regularly.

Who would want to use NCM?
Any library supporting historical research and history programs needs a subscription to NCM.

Public Documents Masterfile

Public Documents Masterfile assists in doing better research by providing electronic, single search access to the overwhelming majority of United States government publications from 1774 to date.  Moreover, Public Documents Masterfile has expanded to become a cumulative source for locating, cataloging, and distributing information provided by government entities from around the world.  Currently the database contains over 4,000,000 records, including resources such as title information for all federal government documents from 1789 to date with SuDocs numbers.

Reference Universe

Why was Reference Universe created?

Most libraries are challenged with maximizing the use of their printed reference materials which is made up primarily of subject encyclopedias.  About 90% of all reference questions get answered by subject encyclodias. With this in mind, Reference Universe was designed to solve this challenge. Reference Universe serves as a bridge for reference librarians and their patrons, between maximizing the use of their local print reference holdings, as well as accessing newer, online reference databases.

There is some information that you'll need to know before ordering, and while each eContent partner or database requires slightly different information, the following generally applies: academic libraries may need to know how many FTEs they have and public libraries will likely be asked for average circulation statistics.

Once you have submitted your order, an OCLC Eastern staff member will contact you to discuss next steps.
