How can I find literary period tables in WebDewey?
These tables are found in the Notes area of particular schedule records. At present, if you search "period tables" in the All Dewey index, you find 10 records. These hits contain records that contain, in the (Dewey) Notes field, literary period tables for American literature in English, literary period tables for English, and literary period tables for French.
However, this search omits the single period table that exists in record 830.1-838 for German, and indeed many single period tables. When you use an asterisk to retrieve both singular and plural, and search for "period table*" in the All Dewey index, you retrieve an unwieldy 218 records.
In this case, you can include the name of the literature. A search for "period table* german" in the All Dewey index yields 9 records, including the record with the period table, 830.1-838 Subdivisions of German literature. A search for "period table* hungarian" in the All Dewey index yields one record, 894.511 *Hungarian (Magyar) literature. The period table appears in the Notes field of this record. A search for "period table* hindi" in the All Dewey index yields one record, 891.4301-891.438 Subdivisions of Hindi literature. In the Notes field of this record you find the instruction "Use period table under 891.4." If you click 891.4, you find the relevant period table in the Notes field of the record 891.4 Modern Indic literatures.
If you do a search of this type and get no hits, you may have given a different name for the literature than is used in DDC; or the literature may have no period table, e.g., 839.699 *Faeroese literature.
