May 23 Enhancements to WorldCat Search API

This past weekend several enhancements were made to the WorldCat Search API. This included:

  • Ability to query for library locations based on ISSN
  • Ability to query for library locations based on the standard number index which includes LCCN, UPC, and variety of other numbers
  • Addition of Edition and LCCN fields to the default search response

The first enhancement makes it easier to determine which libraries hold a particular journal. For example - http://www.worldcat.org/webservices/catalog/content/libraries/issn/00991333?location=77062&wskey=[key] Will tell you what libraries near zip code 774062 have the Journal of Academic librarianship. You can also now perform this query using LCCN in standard number index. This enhancement is helpful for materials which lack an ISBN and OCLC Number.
