NCIP allows developers to request specific fields as part of the NCIP response using the ItemElementType element. This element takes the following values

ItemOption Element in the NCIP Response has the following potential structure

| BibliographicDescription/Author | The author of the item. |
| BibliographicDescription/BibliographicRecordId / BibliographicRecordIdentifier | The OCLC # of the item. This is the bare number, i.e. without prefix (e.g. “ocm” or “ocn”) and without padding (leading zeroes). |
| BibliographicDescription/BibliographicRecordId / BibliographicRecordIdentifierCode / Scheme | Must be the NCIP Bibliographic Record Identifier Code Scheme URI (see Section 10 of this profile). |
| BibliographicDescription/BibliographicRecordId / BibliographicRecordIdentifierCode | Must be the literal text “OCLC”. |
| BibliographicDescription/Edition | The edition of the item. |
| BibliographicDescription/Language / Scheme | Must be the NCIP Language Scheme URI (see Section 10 of this profile). |
| BibliographicDescription/Language | The ISO-639-2 language code of the item. |
| BibliographicDescription/MediumType / Scheme | Must be the URI of the OCLC Material Format Scheme (see Section 10 of this profile). |
| BibliographicDescription/MediumType | The material format of the item. |
| BibliographicDescription/PublicationDate | The year of publication of the item. |
| BibliographicDescription/Publisher | The publisher of the item. |
| BibliographicDescription/Title | The title of the item. |
| CirculationStatus / Scheme | Must be the NCIP Circulation Status Scheme URI (see Section 10 of this profile). |
| CirculationStatus | The current circulation status. |
| HoldQueueLength | The length of the hold queue for the associated bibliographic record. |
| ItemDescription | Information about the circulation item. |
| ItemDescription/BibliographicDescription | Bibliographic information about the item associated with the bill - See Bibliographic Description fields above |
| ItemDescription/DateCheckedOut | The date/time that the item was checked out. |
| ItemDescription/DateDue | The date/time that the item was due to be returned. |
| ItemDescription/DateRenewed | The date/time that the item was last renewed. |
| ItemId / AgencyId | The OCLC registry ID of the institution that owns the item. |
| ItemId / ItemIdentifierValue | The barcode of the item associated with the bill. |
| ItemUseRestrictionType | Any item use restrictions for the item (Repeatable). |
| Location | The permanent (and temporary if applicable) locations for the item (Repeatable). |
| Location / LocationType / Scheme | Must be the NCIP Location Type Scheme URI http://www.niso.org/ncip/v1_0/imp1/schemes/ locationtype/locationtype.scm |
| Location / LocationType | The location type: the literal string “Permanent” or “Temporary”. |
