WorldCat helps parents using Univision Contigo’s ‘Clave al Éxito’ find library books to support their children’s academic success

DUBLIN, Ohio, 13 May 2016—OCLC, a nonprofit global library cooperative, and Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America, are making it easier for parents to locate nearby libraries and access recommended titles to help prepare their children for schoolwork in the United States.

Through its mobile-first digital destination, "Clave al Éxito," (Key to Success), Univision Contigo provides Hispanic parents with bilingual resources that they need to help their children succeed in school and beyond.

The guide offers a Reading Log with grade-specific book recommendations. Parents can click on an image of a recommended book to connect to WorldCat, the world's most comprehensive network of data about library collections. WorldCat identifies the nearest library where that book is held.

"We make WorldCat available to partners who have interests similar to those of OCLC," said Chip Nilges, OCLC Vice President, Business Development. "Univision Contigo's guide to help parents find resources to better educate their children is consistent with our efforts to connect people to the information they need to succeed through libraries. By including WorldCat as a guide for finding books in the reading log, parents are directed to libraries nearby where they can get those books—and possibly discover other books and resources that might be helpful to them or their children."

This month, as part of Univision's third annual Pequeños y Valiosos (Young and Valuable) campaign, Univision Contigo unveiled a new early childhood section of the "Clave Al Exito" online parent portal that provides in-depth information about early brain development and bilingualism; tips and tools for parents, grandparents and other caregivers; and, specific prompts for parents to talk, read, sing and count with their young children. The site also offers video tutorials featuring popular Univision talent and other free content from Univision's partners.

WorldCat is a unique, global resource for finding items held in libraries of all types and sizes around the world. Since 1971, OCLC member libraries have been contributing information about their collections online to WorldCat. Information seekers are able to find what they need in WorldCat, and where they can find it—in a library. Search WorldCat at www.worldcat.org.
