WorldCat Discovery now supports full text searching and display of short “snippets” of the full text resources within the discovery experience. This way, libraries can support their users’ desire for full text scholarship and provide additional context within search results. Additional enhancements this month improve the embedded search box and Google Analytics reporting.
New features added in April
New features added in April 2015:
- Full text snippets
Now users can see snippets of up to 150 characters when they search one of the full text databases available through WorldCat Discovery. The snippet will match on either “keyword plus full text” or “full text only” and returns the page reference and the total number of matches for the article.
- Full text search
WorldCat Discovery now provides the ability to search the full text of selected databases. Libraries can make full text search the default index for your users’ searches, or searchers can use the index labels kf: (keyword plus full text) or fc: (full text only) in the search box.
- Embedded search box supports selected sort options
Libraries can now add sort preferences to an embedded search box for WorldCat Discovery, so that results will automatically default to your library’s preferred relevance sort.
- See additional reporting from Google Analytics
Libraries will now see additional data, reports and keyword search terms come through Google Analytics for WorldCat Discovery.
New Francophone content added to WorldCat Discovery
New content added to WorldCat Discovery this month includes 12 Francophone eBook, magazine and journal collections from Cairn.info, content from JSTOR, MIT Press and more.
