NetLibrary introduces Subject Sets
NetLibrary Subject Sets from OCLC are preselected, bundled collections of eBooks that give library users quick and direct access to high demand subject areas. Fourteen sets are currently available, including Business, Information Technology and Reference Center. Developed by experts, these sets are perfect for heavily-used subject areas in public and school libraries and popular degree programs at community colleges and academic universities.
Each subject set contains titles from top publishers, such as Routledge, Harper Collins, Taylor & Francis and John Wiley & Sons, and includes delivery of OCLC MARC records for every title at no charge.

OCLC Canada opens Preservation Service Centre
In response to a survey of more than 200 libraries, OCLC Canada has opened a Preservation Service Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to serve the digitization needs of Canadian
libraries and cultural heritage institutions.
“The survey helped us realize that there was a need for preservation and digitization services here, and that a local solution was required,” said Daniel Boivin, Director, OCLC Canada.“We hope the geographic convenience of the Winnipeg Centre will entice Canadian libraries to further participate in important worldwide digitization and preservation efforts.”
The Winnipeg facility houses state-of-the-art equipment and offers a full range of digitization services. It is staffed locally, and all projects are directed by OCLC Canada.

600,000 new Finnish records enter WorldCat
To make WorldCat the world’s premier pointer to library collections from around the world, OCLC is loading files from outside the United States. One of the latest was the Finnish National Bibliography, which included more than 600,000 new records describing publications from and about Finland as cataloged by the National Library of Finland.
The 58 millionth WorldCat record, Kotieläimet terveiksi: eläinten terveysmuistio by G. Broberg and Ralph Moberg, was part of this load. All of these records are now available via Web search engines through the Open WorldCat program. The National Library functions as a service and development
center for Finnish libraries with a duty to promote both national and international cooperation. It is also responsible for acquiring and preserving the national heritage in the form of publications, as well as maintaining its collections of research material.
