Worldcat.org enhancements in April 2009

This month’s enhancement delivers a redesigned detailed record view and a new list widget.

Detailed Record Redesign

There's a brand new detailed record design on the site to help users find location information more quickly. It also puts evaluative content directly into the page layout. The changes were made after months of rigorous usability testing with university students, public library users and general Web searchers. In addition, the redesign will make library results even more visible to major search engines.

The redesigned WorldCat detailed record page includes, clockwise from top: (1) a larger, persistent search box; (2) new utility toolbars that gather common actions for saving or citing information and adding social contributions such as reviews and tags; (3) more prominent placement for "more like this" links that help you find similar items; (4) a narrative summary for many items; and (5) Preview button that presents options for viewing content excerpts.
