Linked Data – Radical Change for Libraries?
Richard Wallis, OCLC Research
Abstract:
Linked Data is becoming a major topic of conversation at many library conferences. National libraries are using it to publish their data, the Library of Congress is looking to it as a replacement for Marc as an exchange format, and OCLC WorldCat supports it. Does this signal a radical change in the way libraries manage & share metadata, and interact with the wider web by adopting web techniques and vocabularies? Richard Wallis, OCLC Technology Evangelist and Chair of the W3C Schema Bib Extend Community Group, will explore some of these initiatives and speculate on where these developments may lead.
