OCLC-MARC Records


Abstract

This manual describes the record structure, character sets, and exchange media formatting for OCLC-MARC records on magnetic tape, via electronic file transfer, and via export. It also provides a list of content designators and their names.

2007 September OCLC-MARC Records now contains the relevant information from all Technical Bulletin 254, incorporated througout as appropriate, including the following new fields:
  • 079 OCLC Master Record Number
  • 662 Subject Added Entry-- Hiearchical Place Name
  • 695 Added Class Number
  • 696 Local Subject Added Entry-- Personal Name
  • 697 Local Subject Added Entry-- Corporate Name
  • 698 Local Subject Added Entry-- Meeting Name
  • 699 Local Subject Added Entry-- Uniform Title
  • 796 Local Added Entry-- Personal Name
  • 797 Local Added Entry-- Corporate Name
  • 798 Local Added Entry-- Meeting Name
  • 799 Local Added Entry-- Uniform Title
  • 851 Location (had been obsolete, now restored)
  • 896 Local Series Added Entry-- Personal Name
  • 897 Local Series Added Entry-- Corporate Name

The Index has also been revised to reflect these changes.

2007 January OCLC-MARC Records now contains the relevant information from all Technical Bulletins through TB 253, incorporated througout as appropriate, including the following new fields:
  • Music Parts (Part)
  • Transposition and Arrangement (TrAr)
  • 031 Musical Incipits
  • 258 Philatelic Issue Date
  • 648 Subject Added Entry-- Chrononlogical Term
  • 989 Project Identifier

Appendix C: Summary of Processing Changes now includes section C3: History of the OCLC Number.

The Index has also been revised to reflect these changes.
