Local holdings maintenance
OCLC Local Holdings helps you maintain accurate, current holdings information. This information supports interlibrary loan by providing your library's holdings for materials in any format, including serials. By making all aspects of the collection known, it also supports collection development. It provides finding tools for local users and staff and assists remote users in deciding whether to travel to the library to use the collection. Finally, it supports consortial sharing, cooperative collection development and acquisition. Make your library's local holdings accessible through WorldCat:
Update holdings two waysThe Connexion browser interface makes it easy to add local holdings at the same time you're cataloging an item. You may also upload local holdings records in batch through a Local Holdings Update service—or use both methods.
Helpful metricsThe OCLC Union List Strategic Report gives you a jump start on entering union list holdings data by providing a list of serial titles requested from your library via interlibrary loan. Delivered as a comma-delimited file, the report can be easily imported into your favorite spreadsheet or database program. Local Holdings Maintenance statistics offer a detailed electronic report of your monthly use of OCLC Local Holdings available through the OCLC statistics Web site. These reports include information about online edits to local holdings records sorted by Creates, Modifications and Deletes. The Local Holdings Offline Product enables you to review your local holdings records and identify necessary changes using a tab-delimited text file that is available at no additional charge. Simply order it online. You will receive an e-mail message that notifies you when the file is ready for downloading. You can then import it into a spreadsheet program and view, sort, format and print the data. For more information about these reports, contact your regional service provider.
