OCLC adopts new governance structure

The OCLC Board of Trustees and OCLC Members Council have approved a new governance structure designed to extend participation in the OCLC cooperative to an increasing number of libraries and cultural heritage institutions around the world.

The new structure will continue to be a two tier structure comprising:

  • Tier One – a number of Regional Councils and a Global Council
  • Tier Two – the Board of Trustees

The Regional Councils will elect representatives to the Global Council who will in turn elect six members to the Board of Trustees. The transition to the new structure is expected to take 12-18 months and will be coordinated by representatives of the 2008-2009 OCLC Members Council and the OCLC Board of Trustees. This transition will include both the formation of the Regional Councils and the Global Council and a new definition of OCLC membership.

OCLC EMEA is actively seeking input to these changes. Individual institutions and groups who would like to receive more information or provide input to the process should contact Janet Lees, Community Liaison janet.lees@oclc.org or their local EMEA Members Council Delegate.
