The Table 2 record, "--77 North central United States    Lake states" has a note in it that states: "Class here *Middle West; *Mississippi, *Ohio Rivers; *Great Lakes." Why does the note refer to Mississippi? This must be a typo!

You ask a good question, but what you've uncovered is not a typo, but an instance of Dewey editors following the current Dewey editorial rules. In this instance "Mississippi, Ohio Rivers" is actually shorthand for "Mississippi River, Ohio River."
