There's an instruction at the beginning of Table 1 that says:

Do not add one standard subdivision to another standard subdivision unless specially instructed. Numbers in the schedules that look as though they were built with notation from this table but have headings with a broader or different meanings are not considered "standard" subdivisions. Hence notation from Table 1 may be added to such schedule numbers.
Can you tell me if 796.72068 is an example of a number to which another standard subdivision may be added?

Yes, you can add standard subdivisions to 796.72068. For a heading to have a "broader or different meaning" there must be some indication that the normal standard subdivision meaning has changed. In this case, it has. How do you know that 796.72068 was not built using Table 1? Because if 796.72068 was built from standard subdivision --068 (Management), the number would have meant the management aspects of automobile racing. Instead, 796.72068 means "Racetracks and speedways."

You may also want to refer to http://www.oclc.org/dewey/updates/tips/classification/tip15.htm for a related tip about exceptions where you can add two standard subdivisions.
