How OCLC Members Council works

Members Council exercises its responsibilities in four ways:

  • It elects six of the 15 members of the OCLC Board of Trustees from among Members Council delegates
  • It ratifies amendments to the OCLC Code of Regulations and Articles of Incorporation
  • It meets with OCLC management and members of the OCLC Board of Trustees to discuss issues of mutual concern and to make recommendations
  • It ensures regular and open communication between the Membership and OCLC

Mission statement and goals

The OCLC Members Council mission statement and goals provides additional insight into the valuable service that delegates perform for libraries through their Members Council participation.

How delegates are chosen

Members Council delegates are elected for three-year terms by the members of their respective regions. Staff of regional service providers, as well as OCLC-member libraries, may serve. Delegates come from many types and sizes of institution and thus bring different perspectives to the Council.

The number of delegates from each region is based on that region's proportional contribution to the WorldCat bibliographic database and number of OCLC-member institutions. Delegates report back to OCLC members and participants through regional service providers and other state and regional associations.
